Mason Jar Label Maker

Label jam, canning and spice jars in a couple of minutes. Preset to round Ø 60 mm — the most common size — with two lines for contents and date. Switch size, type your text, print the sheet and cut along the circles. Free, no signup, and nothing leaves your browser.

Which size for which jar

The lid diameter of common canning jars is usually between 60 and 82 mm, so the label sits smaller than that. Ø 60 mm centres neatly on most jam jar lids with a clean margin. Ø 40 mm suits spice jars and small jars, or a label on the glass front rather than the lid. Ø 65 mm is for large jars and bottles. For the jar front, the landscape sizes work best: 70 × 45 mm as an oval gives the classic jam jar look, as a rounded rectangle the sticker look. They also leave more room for ingredients or a best-before date. Switch shape any time in the toolbar — the same dimensions work as an oval, rounded or square.

Compatible label sheets

You can print on plain paper and cut along the marks, or use a pre-cut sheet made for this format:

Avery Zweckform 5080Ø 40 mm round, white, removable. 240 labels on 10 A4 sheets — for small jars and spice jars.
Avery Zweckform L3416Ø 60 mm round, white. 1,200 labels on 100 A4 sheets, 12 per sheet — the same arrangement this tool uses.
Avery Zweckform 5081Ø 65 mm round, white, removable. 80 labels on 10 A4 sheets — for large jam jars and bottles.
Plain paperWorks just as well: print, cut out and attach with a glue stick or a rubber band. For jars going in the fridge, coated paper lasts longer.

How to print these labels

  1. 1Pick your paper format in the toolbar — A4 or US Letter. The label count per sheet updates automatically.
  2. 2Type your label text directly on the preview. Each label is edited in place, so what you see is what prints.
  3. 3Set the font, size and colour per label. Keep one convention across a shelf; mixed styles are far more obvious on a shelf than on screen.
  4. 4Print a test page on plain paper first and hold it against the binder to check the size before using cardstock or a label sheet.
  5. 5In the print dialog set scaling to 100% and turn off "fit to page", which silently shrinks the label by a few millimetres.
  6. 6Cut along the dashed marks. A trimmer gives a straighter edge than scissors, which shows once the label is on the spine.

On round labels the cut line is a circle. Cut just inside the dashed line — a white fringe is more noticeable on a lid than a slightly undersized label. At Ø 40 mm you get 35 per sheet, which is a lot of cuts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size are mason jar labels?
Round Ø 60 mm is the most common. Small jars and spice jars take Ø 40 mm, large jars and bottles Ø 65 mm. All three are preset here.
How many labels fit on a sheet?
At Ø 60 mm this tool arranges 12 labels in a 3 × 4 grid — the same layout as the Avery Zweckform L3416 sheet. At Ø 40 mm you get 35.
Do I need to buy label sheets?
No. You can print on plain paper and cut along the dashed circles. Pre-cut adhesive sheets only save you the glueing.
Which shape should I use?
Oval is the classic look for the jar front and sits more calmly on a round jar. A circle (square dimensions as an oval) is the usual choice for the lid. Rounded rectangles look more modern and are easier to cut cleanly, because the edges run straight. You can switch shape in the toolbar at any time.
Will the labels survive the fridge?
Plain printer paper curls in damp conditions. For jars kept in a fridge or cellar, removable label sheets or coated paper hold up far better.
